Welcome to your go-to source for entertainment. Wait for it Gaming.
Speaker 2: 0:06Wait for it. Anime Plus Ultra.
Speaker 1: 0:11Mr Eric Almighty and Phil the Filipino. Yeah, they've got you covered, and all you gotta do is Wait for it.
Speaker 2: 0:35Hey everyone, welcome back to the Wait for it podcast. I am your co-host, phil Smith, aka Phil the Filipino, and joining us, joining me, as always, is your other co-host, mr Eric Almighty. And Eric, we're here with the very first international feature of 2024. And to say that we ended 2023 with a bit of a controversy and a bang would be an understatement. So here is to continuing that and I don't know, I don't want to say energy, because the energy wasn't great, but continuing the consistency of bringing everybody some really, really great conversation, as I'm sure we will do here today. And we're talking about a show that has really kind of taken social media by storm, and there was one point last year, after seeing Nimona, where I had stated we're at a point now where Netflix needs to be acknowledged as one of the top tier animation studios in general. When it comes to everything we're talking Disney, dreamworks, everything like that. Netflix belongs here and I think at least I feel that this is yet another example of why that conversation needs to be had and continues to be had as we navigate these animated features from Netflix. We've covered quite a few of these Eric between, klaus Arcane, now this A lot of really, really solid Pinocchio Netflix animated features have made their way onto the podcast, so I'm excited to see how we felt about this. Today. We've gotten a little teaser, as far as our conversations personally between you and I, of how you felt. You know how I felt. So, either way, excited to let people know why they should be watching this and also giving just our opinions overall for when it comes to this show.
Speaker 1: 2:22Yeah, I think this is a big episode. This is probably the second biggest show or movie that's come out since Leo on Netflix Talking about how I wasn't going to mention.
Speaker 2: 2:34Leo, you did this a minute and a half.
Speaker 1: 2:39You gave Netflix this huge prop, I felt like Leo should be brought up.
Speaker 2: 2:43I don't think so.
Speaker 1: 2:44They absolutely and this kind of goes for Netflix in general they have more hits than misses. That's typically how it ends up, with the pendulum swinging. I heard about this show. A lot of my favorite content creators were raving about it. And then, phil man, what a New Year's resolution. You brought this to me for an international feature. It's usually the other way around, so it's going to be really interesting to see where we landed. I think, based off of our conversations, we're going to kind of do a little bit of role reversal a little bit, but I think we both enjoyed this and I think that's going to be an interesting conversation on why one of us enjoyed it more than the other, and that's where a lot of this dialogue will take place. Spoiler free, by the way, until about the end of the episode. We'll clearly tag it and let you know when spoilers are in play, phil, I think we do want to talk a little bit about a potential season two, which is exciting. So I'm excited for this episode.
Speaker 2: 3:44Yeah, a lot of really great conversation to be had here this evening and, yeah, and we appreciate any of you that are checking out this episode, whether you are a first time listener or if you've been with us since the jump we really, really appreciate it. If you're looking for any of the rest of our content, make sure you stick around to the very end of the episode and we'll let you know where you can find all of that. But, yeah, first international feature of the year, it is a pretty self exclamatory episode. If you haven't listened to any of our others, you'll get the gist of it pretty quickly. So, eric, let's go ahead and just jump right into a synopsis of this show. Blue Eyes Samurai is an animated series that is currently on Netflix. It debuted in November of 2023. So it's still relatively new and, as you mentioned, a lot of content creators are coming across this as well as just normal viewers that are really really singing its praises. Driven by a dream of revenge against those who made her an outcast in Edo period, japan, a young warrior cuts a bloody path toward her destiny and right there in that description, there's a very important part of this story, which is the period in which this takes place in Japan. There was a pecking order in Japan during this time and there were a couple of people that were at the very bottom of this list Obviously, the people that were not as fortunate, a lot of poor people, but also women, and that is what makes this story very, very interesting from the jump and, as you can also tell in the title, blue Eyes Samurai, our main character, is also half white, which, at this time, basically any type of white men, white women, were banned in this country, in Japan, and that is the whole basis of the story, of the revenge tale that is told here. Eric, in preparation of the end of the year awards, you know, I wanted to see, hey, what have we missed? What have I not been able to check out? And I kept seeing this pop up over and over and over again, and one of the things that was consistent across the board was animation, and we have watched a lot of Netflix specials and movies, just like we talked about at the beginning, at the top of this episode that blew us away, because they were all very unique when it came to the animation style. So I would like to know how you felt about that, because that is one of the things that everyone has raved about and I certainly thought it was beautiful.
Speaker 1: 6:12I'd agree with that. I've never heard of the studio that did this. It's a French studio called Blue Spirit, but yeah, I mean first impressions pretty strong. Not going to lie to you, it's uh, I don't know if this is their first work. I'm actually gonna try to look that up, but from what I can see, I mean there's not a lot to look at from this studio and again, at, a first impression is really strong. I think the thing that makes this really unique is the setting, and then also there's a mix of the violence. You have the nudity, you have all of like these adult elements that are being put into it. So there definitely is a little different and a little jarring at times, to be completely honest. Yeah, you should know before you see this show if you're interested. This is not To be around kids, this is adult for real.
Speaker 2: 7:03Yeah, we've really seen a Rise of adult animation here in the last few years, of course, invincible Now, we know how you feel about invincible but obviously incredibly popular. And then now with this and then also other shows that are on Netflix Bojack Horseman, you know, as a is a mature show, other things that they have done as well. So it it's been nice to see a heavier focus on adult animated shows here as we have progressed. But, yeah, really really great scenery. I think it's kind of funny that, like this is. Also, this watch has coincided with you playing through Ghost of Tsushima, so there's a lot of similar themes that you're going through right now. Because, again, japan in general is obviously always going to be a really, really beautiful setting. We see that a lot in, obviously, a lot of the anime that we watch. But I also want to move into what you think of the voice cast. There is one Person here that I'm a big fan of that. I think this character it just sounds weird, maybe because I'm picturing their face too much and also other roles that they have been in, but I would like to get your opinion on that. We'll start with my S green, who is who's Mizu, who was our main character and, eric, I actually learned this today. She is going to be our Mrs Smith in the Mr and Mrs Smith Amazon show, opposite of Donald Glover. So seems like things are going very, very well, for she's been a whole bunch of other stuff too, but it seems like we're gonna be seeing a lot of her and hearing a lot of her here in the next year.
Speaker 1: 8:31Yeah, no, I did not know that. That is. That is interesting. This cast is really interesting. To be completely honest, you know just a couple of people that I would like to shout out, and again, this is not everyone, but Brenda song loved her as a kemi. I think she did a great job, kind of a standout job. To be completely honest, when we talk about characters, I really liked that character in that arc that that character went through. You also have Kenneth Brana I don't know if that's how you say his last name, but he plays a by a by Jaffa and he bad ass is terrible. Good, I mean I don't want to say he's as good as like arcane's villain I would who I hold that is a conversation.
Speaker 2: 9:18We're gonna have to hear a letter later in this episode.
Speaker 1: 9:21Oh, interesting. Okay, yeah, I I liked his performance personally and then you know you had a couple other people that are fairly well known in here. Obviously you've got your Randall Park Masioka, who I didn't really know and I'm hoping I'm pronouncing that right, but I didn't really know him very much outside of like heroes.
Speaker 2: 9:40He's in a lot of people. He's in the oh my gosh. He's in. Get smart, Remember he's one of the scientists and get smart. Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1: 9:49He's great Ming. No, when is apparently in this? I didn't know she was Madame Kaji. I learned that just now looking at the cast list. So very interesting cast, to say the least. But I was excited, you know, at the end of it.
Speaker 2: 10:03As far as the performances go, they were all solid George to Kai, who they thought listen when Netflix throws money at something, they go all in. The problem is they don't commit long term to stuff. So one of the videos I watched in preparation for this is that a lot of you know the way that Netflix kind of judges whether or not they're gonna renew shows, as if people are finishing Season. So hopefully that's what people are doing here and I don't know what happened with all the hundreds of other shows that they've canceled. But I hope that people are watching this all the way through and but yeah, I thought Mizzou was a an excellent protagonist. A lot of people are are really giving praise for this performance and this character for being an excellent, strong female lead, and we're not gonna get into the BS, woke politics of a female lead and all that kind of stuff. I there's so many people you know talk that into the ground. I guess the. So you mentioned the person who I was Talking about and it was really only Randall Park's performance. Because I've seen him in so much comedic stuff, it was very hard for me to take him seriously as Shindo. And it's not to say that Randall Park did a bad job, but I'm like I'm really supposed to hate Shindo, but I'm waiting for him to make a quip because Randall Park is incredibly talented when it comes to his comedic acting, but he's a great actor in general. But that was like the only thing that like took me out of it. Like I've heard George Takai and some of these other people in Animated features like this, but then hearing Randall Park, I was like I just hear Randall Park, I'm not Actually will second that I do agree.
Speaker 1: 11:42Probably one of the weaker ones and again, not because he did a bad job, but it did just sound like Randall Park. Yeah, I'm sure Bruce said I don't disagree with that.
Speaker 2: 11:52Yeah, so, but I really enjoyed going back to Mizzou and the main character of this story. I really like the fact that this character is not bogged down by a lot of heroic tropes that we see and Marvel and DC and all these other you know, heroes centric films or TV shows. Mizzou is not really a character that you typically would want to root for. Obviously, her story is incredibly Tragic and you are rooting for her. But as far as her, the way that she goes about it, the type of friend and colleague and ally and tutor she's not that she is focused on one thing. There are a lot of kill bill comparisons here. I have not seen any of the kill bill films but there are a lot of comparisons to that here and I really like that. About Mizu, I'm glad that they didn't tie you know tie in friendship and all that kind of stuff that we see all the time, especially when it comes to her relationship with Taigen. Right, like there is obviously a mutual respect there but she is not going. She ultimately knows that you know they're going to come to blows eventually. I really enjoyed Mizu as a character. I think she is certainly a top tier protagonist or anti hero if you want to call her. But, like you said, you know there are side characters in this that are excellent Akimi, who I thought was just going to be a throwaway side character, like chasing after you know, true love and all that kind of crap, and well, obviously that's not. You know, I'm not going to spoil anything, but you know, just a throwaway side story. Taigen again thought that would be like a one and done character or somebody that would pop up every once in a while. And then Ringo, like come on, ringo was so delightful and also they could have gone the way of like a dumb sidekick. But that's not what he is. You know he wants, he has dreams and ambitions and goals and he, he and he's obviously a very lovable character. But you have to earn that love and that trust from him, and that's another thing that I like that they did. That just wasn't by the book, you know. So I just wanted to wanted to continue that conversation you were talking about when it comes to some of these side characters, not just Mizu.
Speaker 1: 13:56Yeah, and I'm going to be honest with you, phil, and you know Mizu is a great protagonist, but I will say I found myself a little bit more interested in a lot of these side characters. You know, it was kind of funny to watch Tygan get his ass beat, kind of a lot, kind of a lot. Tygan goes through it as a character and obviously his relationship, you know, with Akemi and and how they're torn apart. And, without getting into spoilers, you know I was satisfied with where their arcs ended, how we got there. You know we'll kind of have some more talks about that, especially on Tygan's side. But Akemi is the standout princess. Akemi, she's this just strong willed daughter of a Lord and ultimately, you know we end up having situations that you know are going to happen during these times. You know arranged marriages, some of these other more violent things that take place, especially with women in this era. I just thought it was really interesting how they did that and you know there's this whole like set of this is going to come off for really aggressive. This whole set of prostitutes that are in the show and it's an adult themed show, right Like that was probably one of the most interesting aspects, which is why I found it so surprising. I didn't know that was Ming Na Wen, because she also as Madame Kaji, everything that had to do with those characters. I just thought it was interesting, especially because, like, sex is a really big part of this show and they kind of showed, like, how it can be a weakness, how it can be a weapon, stuff like that was kind of compelling to me. To be completely honest, it wasn't just sex for the sake of sex, which I'm just saying sex a lot.
Speaker 2: 15:39Probably the most, probably more than we had said in all of 2023. So that's an interesting start to the year.
Speaker 1: 15:45Hit hitting a record here Fuck.
Speaker 2: 15:49Yeah, and, like I said in the beginning, you know the the tear, the hierarchy here. In this era of Japan, if women weren't, you know, being sold off to being someone's wife, they were being sold off into prostitution. So that's exactly what they don't. They're not shying away from these themes or sugarcoating anything that is going on here. So, you know, between some really solid character is obviously an incredible animation. It's very easy to see why so many people have been drawn to this, because I talked to you about this at the end of the year. Awards like this does not qualify for, at least in our opinion. I don't think this is an anime, but it does have a lot of anime tropes and a lot of people have been talking about inspiration from other anime. And, you know, I think, with anime being at such a high right now, it's the best time to be an anime fan ever, I think. In my opinion, as somebody who is newer to the genre, I think it's a great time and the fact that we're, you know, we're kind of getting anime adjation shows like this, it's, I think, been pretty easy for people to kind of, you know, pick up a show like this, which I think is really, really solid. But, eric, I know that I have come away with this with a much higher opinion than you have, and I want to talk about that in a moment. I do want to address one thing that I saw some content creators on YouTube mentioning, and this is what I will say. You know, a lot of people were saying this is on par or better than Arcane. I can't go that far. I really, really love this, but Arcane I have gone back and watched that so many times and listen, these are two totally different genres. There's obviously very, very different things going on, but if somebody says, hey, you know, when it comes to the animation department of Netflix and you're talking about the animated shows, if someone is going to come to me and ask if it's as good as Arcane, I'm going to say no, but it's still very, very good. But that's also saying like, because, eric, we put Arcane at the highest possible tier and while this is very good, it's not that. So I just wanted to get my opinion out there and say, no, this is not as good as Arcane, but it's still very, very, very good.
Speaker 1: 17:55No, I actually 100, 1000% agree with that fell. I did not like the show as much as you did. I think you and a lot of other people that I follow like absolutely adore this show, not to an Arcane level but to a respectable level For me. You know, if we could kind of talk a little bit about some of the things that maybe didn't work with the show, especially for those out there who are thinking about making an eight episode, one hour and episode commitment, really more like 45, 45 minutes was like the average. This show, pace wise, I do think is a slow burn compared to a show like Arcane. I felt like a lot more was happening and it was a little bit more interesting at times. There are elements of blue-eye samurai that works, but then there are other elements and other things that happen where I'm just kind of like all right, let's kind of, let's kind of get there, let's get there a little bit quicker. And I know that sometimes shows can really benefit from that slow burn or by taking its time with its characters. I just don't know if it was always effective. And again, I personally found a lot of the side characters stories to be more interesting than the main characters, which, at the end of the day, is kind of a traditional like revenge story, and I don't know that there's that much more meat to chew on for that type of character arc than some of the other ones I saw on the show. Were there things like that? That kind of brought it down a peg. Since you don't have it on that Arcane pedestal, what kind of prevented you from getting it there? You?
Speaker 2: 19:31know, sometimes as lazy as it sounds like, sometimes it just comes down to a feeling, and while I'll definitely rewatch this again in the future when I finished Arcane, I want to, I want to rewatch it pretty much immediately, and I have not found myself doing it here. So based on that, then, in theory, at least in my head that means that I did not enjoy it as much. You know, that's one thing that it boils down to. But also, even though both shows are incredibly violent, you know some with some violence, you know I do get a little. I get a little tense with some stuff and obviously there's a lot of hand to hand stuff going on here.
Speaker 1: 20:12Oh, the beginning of the first fight. Phil, I was like how did you make it through this show? It starts from the get go, yeah.
Speaker 2: 20:20So you know that some of that stuff makes me not feel so great, so that could also be a reason as well, but what it comes down to, you know, I think probably a couple of different things but really, to be a little lazy about it, just comes down to a feeling Now I definitely think this is worth a lot of people's time and, like you said, the runtime you know 45 minutes to 50 minutes, eight episodes, and this is going to be another show that, even though I do think it's going to get a season two, we're going to have to wait a long time, so that might also deter people from watching it right away. But I got through this in two days probably and I also wanted to finish it before the end of the year awards as well, and I'm certainly got consideration for Best TV Show for me. But yeah, I think again, it just kind of came down to I watched, I rewatched Arcane right away and have multiple times since then, and it'll probably be a few months before I revisit this.
Speaker 1: 21:22Yeah, and I think, phil, you know, on I kind of mentioned a couple of things, kind of going that like simplified route as well. You had a feeling like for me there's not a lot, that I would come back to this show to watch, like I'll go see, I'd love to go see some clips of Arcane, you know, and that would really bring me in. There was no stand out worthy moment like what Arcane provided. And, again, not every show can be compared to Arcane, it's just kind of the circumstances. But this show felt pretty straight and narrow. I don't know. I don't know that they took a lot of surprises or twists, and not every series has to do that, but I felt like that would have given this show a little bit more of intrigue, a little bit more mystery. And, to be completely honest, phil and I think this is we're getting close to transitioning to spoilers here I think that's kind of needed for a season two because, with a couple of tweaks, I feel like this was a one season show. To be completely honest with you, I felt like it could have been told in an eight episode order.
Speaker 2: 22:25I don't think so just because of the the number of people involved in this revenge story on Mizzou's end. So I don't think they could have. If they had done that in eight episodes, I definitely think it would have been rushed. Now, what they are teasing going forward? I mean, man, we're talking about a whole new set of circumstances for this character and also what does it mean for the side characters that we love so much? So we'll again talk about that here in just a moment. But as far as like, there are definitely some moments for me that have stuck with me for a while. There is a task that she has asked to perform by the character you just mentioned, by Madame Kaji. They're in the middle of the season that I have thought about quite a bit. Her backstory is something that I think is also very tragic. They take an episode to focus on that and what she. You know, how her her life went prior to to where she is now. That's something I think about here quite a bit, but I will agree with you there again. Yeah, this is so obnoxious that, but there are. There are moments in arcane that have stuck with me for years now. So we'll see what happens in time with Blue Eye Samurai and again a rewatch, which I will do eventually. But I will say that I think there is still a lot of story to be told here. Maybe if it were a 12 episode run yeah, I think you could maybe, maybe fit in everything that Mizzou has set out to do. But if they had wrapped it up, I think in eight episodes, I might have felt cheated a little bit, or that they rushed through it.
Speaker 1: 23:58Yeah, and again, there are definitely. If you got to make some twists to the story, right, you got to make some changes to the story to make that work, but I think there's a great opportunity for us to kind of talk about spoilers. Before we do that, though, phil, I think it's a great opportunity for our non spoiler listeners people who haven't seen the show just wanted to hear our thoughts about it. How was the show received? And, ultimately, I know we don't really track TV shows yet on Letterbox, but what would you give it out of five?
Speaker 2: 24:26I feel like we should have that conversation really quick, yeah shout out to Letterbox, who, hopefully, is going to be implementing this soon. Some people want it to be its own app. I don't need any more apps. Please just make it all. No, please Just put it all in one thing. But currently, eric, it still sits at a 100% tomato meter score, certified fresh, and then a 96% audience score. So that is a lot of what we've been hearing again from some of our favorite social media personalities. A lot of people have loved this. I put this out on our Discord a couple of weeks ago when I had watched it, that I'd give it a four and a half out of five and I'll stick there. I think again, this is a well, you know what this isn't. On Letterbox, I'll give it a 4.25. We can do whatever we want. There's no Letterbox for TV shows. I'll give it a 4.25 because I think it's more so of that than it is a four, and we'll stick there. Screw you, letterbox, I'll do what I want here.
Speaker 1: 25:18That's completely fair. I think if we're doing that, then I'm going to also take that cop out and I'm going to round it up to a 0.25, which is a 3.25 for me. I think it is a little on the it's on the side. Again, when I do that, scoring a three is ultimately. You know, if it's on, I might sit down and watch it. You know, I'll probably sit down, watch it for a little bit. It'll catch my eye. I would recommend it to people, not just to formulate their own opinion, but because I think certain people would like this show, but it just misses the mark to be something more. And again, I think this show is memorable, but it's. It doesn't have enough memorable moments to make me want to go back for more. And to be completely honest, phil, I think I'm kind of maybe punishing you for the bear or something, because I don't think I'm going to watch season two of this and I'm excited to talk about the spoiler parts. As to why that might be, I'm not completely. It's not out of the question, but I'm a little bit kind of iffy on it.
Speaker 2: 26:21That's understandable and you know I kind of picked up that vibe a little bit on as you were kind of progressing through the series. So you know I do want to talk about the future of the show and you know we'll talk about some spoilers here and obviously anything else that comes up that you want to mention as well. But season two, yeah, she just yeets up there with with Fowler, gets him on a ship and they're off to London. Maybe it seems that's what they're just totally leaving now. Ultimately, I think something is going to go wrong and they'll stay on it in Japan for now. And because you know we got to make sure that the side characters getting back involved into this story somehow, because she just obviously they're all, just, you know, leaves them all behind and you know so want to get your thoughts on that. But also just really the terrifying imagery when it came to Fowler's army and the guns. You know obviously it's the big. One of the big plot lines is Western guns are coming to Japan and oddly enough, this I guess is a little bit of a spoiler, for it's like a very minor spoiler for Ghost of Tsushima. You know it's it kind of juxtaposes that where the Mongrels in Ghost of Tsushima have. No, they don't care about, you know, being respectful or honoring traditions. They're just going to go in and fuck you up, and that's what's happening here with Fowler and his army as well. So want to get your thoughts on just the imagery, with Fowler's army coming in and just doing whatever the hell they want, and also again where this may be taking us if we get a season two based on how everybody is reacting. It seems like we are going to get that.
Speaker 1: 28:02Yeah, you know, we kind of talked about like twists and there were some twists in this show, like I guess you know who she thought her mother was wasn't actually her mother. You know, there's there's the two men that they're still searching for and she's going to use Fowler for that. You know, for that story this is kind of what I meant a little bit about, just with a couple changes. I feel like it could have been a once you know one season story, like if Fowler was the guy. I mean, this story is kind of over. They're going to go to London, Phil. I think there's going to be a split storytelling. I think they're going to do some of that, like in London, in Japan storytelling, because a chemie has a lot to still try to accomplish with the Lord in that land. She's now married, she rejects Taigen poor Taigen and he went through it man.
Speaker 2: 28:54First he gets his hair cut, Then he gets fucked up later. Yeah, it's true. So yeah, he, he went through it.
Speaker 1: 29:03But he went through it. It was. It was rough. So you know, I think these characters leave off in an interesting place, but I don't know how that works for, like season two, and again I feel like we're going to I don't want to say more convoluted storytelling, but I do feel like there's going to be a lot to juggle and it'll be an interesting balance. For sure. I think that's going to be how they handle.
Speaker 2: 29:26the pacing in season two is going to be important for me, yeah, and again, it seems like a lot of people are watching through this and discovering it, so it wouldn't surprise me if we got a season two confirmation in 2024. Now, when we're going to see that, who knows? We watched Arcane in 2020, 2021. And here we are waiting for season two in November of 2024. But to be fair, I mean, if they're going, if this is the type of quality we're going to get from whatever the animated show is, or animated film, then hey, you know what? By all means, take your time. So. But yeah, I think that's probably a good call. As far as, like, split storytelling, I just trying to figure out how they reunite Mizzou and Ringo and how they figure all of that out. So, but I, like I said, I really I enjoyed the hell out of this and I will certainly commit to a season two whenever that may be, and then, maybe, with more word of mouth or if you hear about any kind of difference in storytelling or anything like that, maybe you'll return to it. So, anything else you wanted to mention on the the spoiler side of things, I will say, because we talked about, you said, like come by the end of the show, the end of the show you would. You would bought into it a little bit more, but I do feel like episodes four, five and six are the best three episodes in the show and that is also reflected in their IMDB ratings as well. So I know you mentioned pacing. As far as those, those episodes in general or any other ones, anything you want to point out? Spoiler wise?
Speaker 1: 31:02Yeah, and I think what I made that comment I had just started episode four, so I think I was referencing just the first three episodes. Again, just a lot, a lot does and doesn't happen with these characters and I just wanted a little bit more from the show. But it did start to pick up, you know, as we get to the first face off with Fowler and then you know it kind of reverts back. It's got to slow down. Then we fight some zombies or something. I'm not sure exactly what happened there. Nope, it's not. And then for some reason, like I was already asked to believe this Taigen, a Kemi relationship with little to no substance behind it. I was already asked to believe that. So then when Tygen suggestively like, like, like, he, kind of like you know him and me, zuhra kind of getting a little close, I was like all right, little much now. Little much now. We're just kind of shoe horning Tygen wherever he fits romantically. I don't, I don't love that. Again, there were little little things like that the show also feel. I don't know how you felt about this. I thought the music was a little off, a little off for the show's like themes they went for like this, like older rock metal vibe. Did you like that? Like I don't know Maybe I'm nitpicking at this point because I didn't. I didn't love that whenever it came on. It kind of threw me out of the world.
Speaker 2: 32:27I remember there were being a couple instances where it maybe took me out of the immersion, but I don't remember, honestly, it affecting me too much, so I guess not.
Speaker 1: 32:39I think I was looking for stuff at that point. So I mean to be completely fair, you know I was already not having the best time and then I was like, oh, here's this Metallica cover. It's just stuff like that. So, no, honestly, I feel like I'll just end up shitting on the show more than I want to if we continue. And I do think, at the end of the day, I do think that this is a show worth watching and I can understand why some people have the praise Just not not a show that really vibed with me. I don't know, maybe I'm going through invincible PTSD, who knows?
Speaker 2: 33:14Well, I think one of the great things about again right now with adult animation is there are a lot of genres right now. I mean, I didn't even you know we talked about invincible arcane. Now this I didn't even mention and I'm totally I don't know what. I am totally slipping on. What is it? What the name of the show is? And I love it so much and do you installing for time, because that show is called Legend of Vox Machina. Wow, yeah, I was like, why is it slipping my mind? So there is a genre for everybody, right, which is really, really great right now. And you know, if you're looking for other great Netflix, even films to watch, we have covered quite a few of them on here and, eric, some of them that I haven't even watched yet, like Sea Beast, mitchells and the Machines, like they're pumping out bangers, like the Netflix is on a roll. So who knows what they have planned for the rest of 2024. We maybe have to look into that. There might be some layups for either late to the parties or more international features. But I mean, netflix is as far as like go to shows between that and Apple TV, like I'm, I'm eating, I feel pretty good where things are pretty good.
Speaker 1: 34:30Pretty good, did you say. You said you watched Mitchells and the Machines. No, I haven't seen that.
Speaker 2: 34:35I haven't seen Sea Beast.
Speaker 1: 34:37Are you serious?
Speaker 2: 34:38I haven't seen Over the Moon, which I heard is pretty good.
Speaker 1: 34:41Fuck the rest of them Phil man, that's. I'm literally making a note of that. Yeah, I know you have to see that that is absolutely a show you've got as a movie you've got to see. Expect that to probably be marches late to the party at this point. There you go.
Speaker 2: 34:55I've heard Big Mouth is very, very good. I don't know if that's stylistically, if that's a show for me. I've heard that Trollhunters show was pretty good. I'm not going to watch that either, but you know, disenchantment. I'm just looking at this list of show Castlevania again not a show I'm going to watch, but there are a lot of shows here that have like gotten really, really great reviews. There is one here called Inside Job that I think I'm going to check out and it's about conspiracy theories, but it's like a comedy, like an animated comedy, and that's like right up my alley. So I might check that one out here pretty soon. So what we're trying to say is I mean, netflix is charging us all this fucking money. At least there's stuff to watch, yeah, even share accounts anymore.
Speaker 1: 35:33Yeah, thank God that they've got at least a little bit for us to watch.
Speaker 2: 35:37So like $25.
Speaker 1: 35:39Listen if you like this episode and you are looking for something in the same vein. You heard Phil talk about Ghost of Tsushima earlier. That is going to be our next episode the game room where it happens, where we talk about that game. Phil has beaten and played that game around release. I am currently playing it for the first time, so it'll definitely be an interesting conversation, to say the least. And are there things on Netflix that you want us to watch? Are there Samurai-like content you want us to check out? Phil mentioned he never watched Kill Bill. I've never watched Kill Bill. Maybe that is a late to the party episode. We'd love to hear from you and Phil as we kind of transition to the end of the, as we transition to the end of the episode. I think this is a great place to let everyone know where they can tell us all of that.
