MedEvidence! is where we help you navigate the real truth behind medical research, with both a clinical and research perspective. So sit back, relax and get ready to learn about the truth behind the data in medicine and healthcare. This is MedEvidence!
Dr. Michael Koren:
0:30
Tony Fauci's last public interview prior to getting pardoned by President Biden was a MedEvidence! interview.
Kevin Geddings:
0:38
Wow.
Dr. Michael Koren:
0:38
So just probably coincidence, but who knows, I thought it was fascinating that it happened that way, so we encourage people to check it out and see my podcast with Tony Fauci.
Kevin Geddings:
0:48
Yeah, he continues to, of course, travel the country and be very engaged. I mean just in quick summary, you know, what did you sort of take away from your time with Dr. Fauci?
Dr. Michael Koren:
0:58
Well, I had met him once before when I was in my training many years ago, in the 1980s, late 80s, and he's always been a very gracious person, a very kind person, a very knowledgeable person and also very scientific. And the key part of that scientific reasoning is that you are free about the things that you don't know. It's one of the things that we get trained to do when we're getting involved in our medical residencies, and learning during our clinical years is that it's extremely important to acknowledge the things that you don't know, and that's one of the principles behind MedEvidence! We like to tell people there's things that we know for sure, there's things we don't know, and then there's a way to learn about the stuff that we don't know, and I think Dr. Fauci clearly articulated those concepts during my interview with him.
Kevin Geddings:
1:48
Yeah Well, you can, of course, access that. All you have to do is go to the website MedEvidence! MedEvidence. com, and of course it speaks to, and there's a lot of questioning about what's going on with NIH and public information and all that's all sort of swirling around here in these early days of the Trump administration. But what's sort of your takeaway from where we stand today when it comes to getting information out about leading edge medical information?
Dr. Michael Koren:
2:15
Well, you and I were just talking about some of the interesting turns of the Dr. Fauci story right before we got on air, and one is the fact that President Joe Biden pardoned him before any crimes were even discussed. So you know, there's no actually criminal allegations against Tony Fauci, but as a preventative or prophylactic measure, Joe Biden said OK, well, you're free from any crimes in the future, sort of a get out of jail free card, even though he hasn't been really accused of anything specifically. So I thought that was super interesting and again, coincidentally, that happened right before Actually right after my podcast with him. Then the two other things that were interesting were one, president Trump taking away the publicly funded security for Dr. Fauci, arguing that he is a relatively wealthy person so he can afford his own security. And I'm sort of in the middle of that argument. At some point, public figures who are now private probably need to have their security details become something that they become responsible for. So how long that should last on the public dime, I don't know the answer to that, but that was interesting and the timing was interesting.
Dr. Michael Koren:
3:36
And then, finally, the CIA made an assessment that the COVID-19 virus may have come from a lab leak. In fact, they said our assessment is that it came from a lab leak, but we make this assessment with a very low level of confidence. Now what the heck does that mean? I have no idea. I think it means that we don't know the answer. But that's the way the CIA speaks versus the way people in medicine speak, where we say we just don't know the answer.
Kevin Geddings:
4:04
If you have any questions about that, you should check out Dr. Fauci's podcast with Dr. Koren by going to MedEvidence. com. Medevidence. com the truth behind the data. Indeed, there are ongoing research trials going on right now that the rest of us can participate in so that we can play a small role in moving medicine forward, correct?
Dr. Michael Koren:
4:26
Yeah, and that's part of the learning process. Not only does the individual learn from these research experiences, but society learns from the research experiences. So it's really a beautiful thing in my view, and I think people that are a little bit nervous about it should give it a try and see if they like it. I can say that because I know that 99% of people who do one study are more than happy to do a second study. So it's one of those things that, once you have that experience, you realize it's really quite nurturing, it's an enriching experience and it's something that you'll want to do again.
Kevin Geddings:
5:00
Yeah, absolutely. You can learn more by going to EncoreDocs. com to see how you can participate in leading-edge clinical trials, including for things like the flu and all sorts of heart health issues, digestive health issues, you name it. The list goes on and on. You can also go old school and talk to a real human being about your current health status and about what opportunities may be available to you. Have a great conversation, no commitment, you just learn a little bit. Call locally 904-730-0166. 904-730-0166. Dr. Michael Koren. Any closing thoughts this Monday morning?
Dr. Michael Koren:
5:42
Yeah, we're in the midst of really a surge in viral illnesses. So give us a call. Figure out how you can protect yourself against some of these illnesses. We've had some people, unfortunately, that have gotten really, really sick from them, and it's partially due to the fact that we've become a little bit complacent. People are not getting their boosters for different viral illnesses and we're seeing the consequences of it now as we speak in the emergency rooms and the hospitals around northeast Florida. So protect yourself, protect your family. Give us a call.
Kevin Geddings:
6:11
All right! Well, Dr. Koren, we appreciate you very much. Be safe out there and we'll talk with you soon.
Dr. Michael Koren:
6:15
Okay, okay you too Be well, Kevin.
