Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to another episode of Couple O' Nukes. As always, I'm your host, Mr. Whiskey. And over the past few weeks, past few months even, we've been talking a lot about fitness and health, getting into why fitness is important, why it's a privilege and not a chore, why it is just such a great thing. And we've been talking about different kinds of workouts, different kinds of strategies. Today, we're going to focus on fitness, but on the recovery and injury prevention. I've given you a couple resources and guests who are there to help you get into fitness. But now let's talk about how we can do it safely, how we can maximize it to get the most results out of it that we can.Because if we're going to put our time and effort into fitness, let's get the most out of it that we can. And we are here with a man who pursued fitness, has been pursuing fitness for almost two decades now. And has done great with it, but he did, like many people, Who get into fitness did get injured and he discovered something revolutionary that he then took to the next level and we're going to talk about that today.Mr. John Graham, would you please introduce yourself for us? Yes. Hello, everyone. Um, first and foremost, thank you, Mr. Whiskey for allowing me on your show. You've obviously built up a lot of trust and good rapport with your audience and you're allowing me access to your audience to be able to share my story, share about Red Light, about the product.Um, so greatly appreciate that. But yeah, just like you said, I came, I came from a competitive background. I was very, um, I was, I played rugby and then from rugby, I went into amateur boxing, suffered some pretty serious injuries and how I was, um, healed was through red light. It was introduced to be my, my wife. And, um, she introduced this, uh, lamp, it was like a very cumbersome lamp that was very, it was difficult to use. It wasn't so, um, it wasn't so accommodating for someone like myself, but it did work, found relief. And, but it triggered a lot of interest into red light therapy. I went down the rabbit hole and here we are now, almost seven years later with the world's number one, portable, easily accessible, creating consistency and use red light therapy panel. So, yeah, that's obviously I've done a few other lots of ventures in sports and fitness. I've always been involved in the, in the fitness space, but now, as I'm getting older. Climbing very quickly to the age of 40 kids are on the horizon. I'm actually turning 39 in a few days. So, um, recovery, um, and sort of getting more in touch with my body, you know, you know, it's not just the physical side, but it's the mental side. It's the emotional side as well. I'm sort of more heavily invested in creating solutions that help people get better relief. You know, pain and, um, yeah, that's a, uh, as, as short as I can make it in terms of introductions, right? For sure. And before we move any further, please tell us the name of this amazing creation, uh, before we move forward. Here it is. This is the Luma Flex. So Luma Flex Luma meaning light, flex, meaning flexible. So the Luma Flex, you can find it on luma flex.com. It is, um, it's a device that is used for localized treatment. You aim at the pain. So if you have a sore shoulder, like for me, both my shoulders busted during, during rugby. You can aim it in that area and get the treatment directly to that area. There are, of course, many other devices out there that are much larger. But I wanted to create a device that was, um, something they could have in, you know, your gym bag, you know, that you could use on the go, anytime, anywhere. The most accessible device to mainstream red light therapy.Um, right. Yeah. LumaFlex right here. This is it. I'll turn it on. So it's a red and near infrared light therapy panel. So we can talk a little bit deep about, um, light and the nanometers of light and the outcomes that come, you know, in your body, the cellular mechanisms that happen, but this device has. 630 nanometers for red light. So that goes about an inch into your body and 850 for infrared light which goes about four inches into the body So we want that infrared light to be able to address deep deep pain chronic pain, you know joint pain And um, so having the red and the infrared is addressing pretty much All that you need in terms of the pain management and recovery.Yeah, and I don't want to sell you short here So let's also mention that it's waterproof which is what puts it An edge ahead of all the, uh, competitive brands and everyone else who has this kind of thing. Not only is it flexible and portable, but it's waterproof, making it great for all the swimming athletes out there who definitely also have busted up shoulders for sure. And so let's really get into the science behind this because I know there's a lot of people listening right now who are like. What is red light therapy? I never heard of it. How is you know flashing a red light on my injury gonna heal it? So let's break down the actual science behind it because this is something that has been around for a while. This is evidence based It's real. This is just a new way to make it even more efficient That's exactly right. Wow, you say it so well. You really have a great way of packaging the information. That's um, but it's true. It's not Christmas lights, right? So the LEDs in this panel are programmed with specific nanometers. But red and infrared light, where does it come from? It comes from the sun. You got to think of the sun as our multivitamin, right? Oh, yeah. You know, back in ancient times, before we lived in concrete jungles, we were getting, you know, almost, I mean, I think the statistic is we were getting about 90 percent more sunlight than we are today, right? We're under, we do have light, we have artificial light, but that's not all. That's not healthy light, right? It's artificial. And it's actually creates inflammation in our body. So before we were getting a lot of, of, um, natural light from the sun and the optimal time to get pure red and infrared is that sunrise and sunset. So it's available to us throughout the day, but also throughout the day, you know, especially here in Miami midday, there's also UV light, which is catabolic to ourselves. Right? So, at sunrise, sunset, you know, you look out, you see that beautiful color. That's right. An infrared light. So that if you think of luma flex, it's a very concentrated dosage of what we're getting at those, the, you know, the golden hour, they call it and the, the, the way that light works with your body.So the anatomies of light that penetrate your skin, and they activate your mitochondria, right, you're, you're, you're a human made up of cells, billions of cells and inside the cell, you have the driver, you have the engine. Right. And that is called the mitochondria. So you're giving energy to the cell. You're giving the energy to mitochondria. The cell can do what it's supposed to do. It can do its job. And that can be anything from, you know, producing the collagen in your skin, helping you grow your hair, boosting your testosterone, boosting your body's natural SPF levels, and also helping you with pain, addressing pain.Because if you think, think of your body as a solar panel, the light is giving you energy the same way I plug in my iPhone. Right. And as your iPhone, you know, slowly depletes in, in battery, it starts to not work as good, right? Apps start to go slow, you know, and you, you say, okay, I need some energy. Right. We need to plug ourselves in and that's what the sun, the sun gives us that energy. So it's not that the light is healing you, it's the light is giving your cells energy to heal themselves, right? Does that make sense? Yeah, I think that, uh, It makes it a lot better for all our superstitious listeners because, right, I mean, it's basic biology, right?Your body is always trying to repair itself. That's what working out is, is breaking down muscle and then building it back stronger So it doesn't get broken down as easily. So just boosting that. But there's another point here I want to address upon which is for everyone listening who's like, great. That's all awesome stuff. What about the bad side of it? Are there any consequences to too much red light exposure? Can we overdo it? Are there limitations with it? What are, are there any restraints on this or any health issues that could happen as a result? Well, the same as if you go outside and you're in the sun, what sort of, you know, you probably be the main area that we want to be concerned about is people with skin conditions. You know, people that are allergic to some sunlight, right? Like albinos. But they are already aware of the effect that the sun has on their body. So they're already taking protect, you know, protective measures. Um, but in terms of negative side effects, there isn't really any known negative side effects. What happens is, is when you, when you have, um, you can't really overdose, it isn't really that there's, there's nothing out there that says, but there is the optimal dose. Right, so the optimal dose is when you're getting benefit, but then when you overdose, you don't have any negative side effects, but you don't have any increased benefit. So, that optimal dose is something that is different to each individual and it's all based on their inflammation, right? If you have, um, you know, let's say, for example, Jessica, you know, she's dealing with, um, stress because she just lost her job, right? Then you have. You know, James and he has cancer, you know, the inflammation is different in their bodies, right? For sure. How the, the amount of light that they need to again, imagine recharging your phone, you know, the amount of light that they need to recharge is different. So. I mean, referring to a clinical study, there was one out, there was one that was published that basically with full body red and infrared light exposure, if you're in like a, a bed or, you know, or you, you have a large panel and you're next to the panel after about 20 minutes, you, you fill your battery, you know, your body's battery is full, but again, it's depending on the person and their inflammation, their lifestyle, their age, the battery depletes at different rates. You know, so in terms of getting another dose, another full dose, or it's different to each person, but you can kind of work in that area as a standard. And, you know, if you have a large device at home, 20 minutes in the morning, 20 minutes at night is kind of, you know, a good framework to, you know, to work around.Um, but again, you know, some people are dealing with very serious inflammation, but very, you know. You know, debilitating chronic disease and they may need more, you know, more light, you know, in order for them to, you know, to find healing for sure. So, ladies and gentlemen, just remember to always consult a medical professional before you try something new, especially if you're someone who has unique health conditions or multiple health conditions, always be sure to be your own health advocate. And get all the knowledge you can on that, but it sounds great. And I did want to talk a bit about, you know, not just the product, you know, you do more than just that. In fact, you have something called the LumaFlex Academy. Can you tell us kind of about that and the different programs you offer? Yes. Um, that's, I'm so happy that you, you brought that up because. You know, we launched a product. Um, we, we spent two years developing this product. IP67, like he said, it's fully waterproof, but it's really creating an environment and temperature tested product. And it's something that I want to introduce into the military where, you know, the innovation of the product can really truly be expressed and, you know, in a really durable environment. My brother actually went on a, um, a motorcycle tour. You went on this adventure in the Sahara, um, and he had a lumaflex with him. And I, I like how I, you know, what are the product on the market is able to withstand such extreme environments, you know, it was like cross country racing. So a lot of investment into the product, a lot of, you know, time and innovation to create a great product, but that's all it was.It was just a great product. It wasn't really a solution. Um, because like. You know, like you were saying earlier, there's still a lot of unknowns about red light therapy. People love it. You know, Andrew Herberman is talking about Gary Breck is talking about it. Oh, Joe Rogan is talking about it. Everybody's talking about it.But what does it do? How does it apply to me? And how do I step into this and how do I bring it? Um, so that's where. I thought, okay, we need to take a little step back. We got to think about what is, you know, we made a great product. Now, we need to actually introduce a solution. And that solution is our education, our LumaFlex Academy. And, um, we've launched a course in the Academy called the Foundations Course. And that course is basically to empower any and all. Um, particularly therapists, coaches, trainers, you know, um, any, you know, any and all people that are professionals that are dealing with clients that have human conditions and they want to use the LumaFlex. They want to use red light to be able to address these different needs, but it's something that, um, you know, for any and all your listeners, if they are really interested in, you know, taking a step into to loop into red light. very much. Um, they're trying to decide what product to buy. This is a great way to start. We have, like, a full education course available where it's, like, about an hour and a half video. It's a seminar that we do. We do in person seminars at gyms, at wellness centers, and then we have, like, the actual digital book as well. And that is something that I use to start the conversation. You know, just get people interested.I'm like, you know, you, you don't need to invest in a product. Now. I, I understand you want to learn about it. You want to understand not just about how wonderful it is, but how do you take action in your life? You know, what is, how does it fit into your protocol, you know, to your needs and to the needs of your family and friends. So, you know, I would love if anybody, um, is interested in the education part, just hit me up on Instagram. I will give you access. Um, I can give a 10 day pass. And that's more than enough to learn about it. And then from there, you may, I mean, you may not necessarily want to buy a Lumaflex device. You may want to buy another device, but from my side, I am still creating an impact.I'm raising awareness. And most importantly, something I want to, you know, always drive home is I'm steering people away from pharmaceuticals. Because this is a bit of a dark story in my life as well. Um, from my personal life, you know, dealing with pain and then, you know, my friends and my family, it's, it is a very, that is the mission is to be able to introduce natural healing and steer people away from, you know, from, from medication and potentially even surgery. For sure. We've talked a lot on the show about. The consumerism, the money behind the medication industry, some of the not so morally righteous practices going on. I've got plenty of episodes on those and, uh, I've had a lot of guests recently talk about a lot of different natural alternatives. And this is definitely one of the least invasive ones, one of the easiest ones. But we've done some myth busting with it so far. The, the positives, the potential for negatives, which there were none, just, you know, plateaus. Let's talk about one last thing in regard to that, which is seeing it maybe as a, as a miracle, as instantaneous. Now, for those of us who are injured, of course, especially athletes, especially people who are fitness enthusiasts, we want to get back out there, right?I'm sure every time you want to get right back into a game of rugby, I, I get it. So. We need to know though, our body is healing and this is helping it heal faster, but that doesn't mean it's overnight or five minutes, right? So can we get into a little bit about the realistic expectations of how this product works in terms of, you know, speeding up the recovery process, but it's still a process. That's right. The response rate, right? Everybody's response rates are different. Like, and it, it goes to the each individual. If you are a healthy person, your cells are already hydrated. You just need an extra boost. Sometimes the, you know, the response can be very instantaneous. Like, there was, um, there was a gentleman I met in New York at a recent conference. It's one of the most wildest testimonial stories just within the last couple of months. Um, he had a, he had a, uh, a shoulder from sport, a bad show, like a stiff shoulder and he wasn't able to sleep on this shoulder. It was always giving him pain. He was always, it was something he dealt with for many years, but after 10 minutes of using, you know, the treatment of using the lumaflex on his skin, because remember with lumaflex, the reason why it's liquid silicone reason why it's ip67 is fully waterproof because it needs to touch skin. You know, I have a spec sheet. I promise a certain output in, in the device. Like this is how much I'm giving you. So I've got a 10 minute, 10 minutes is what was the timeframe, the treatment timeframe. So I worked backwards to create the optimal amount of treatment time in terms of radiance dosage. And that is kind of the framework that we work with, but we say you must touch skin because with light, remember light reflects. So if I have the device here versus here, the treatment is is always, yeah, of course. Inches I go away. The more it drops down. So 12 inches, you're throwing spaghetti onto the wall. You're not really, I can't, right? Can't really promise. Right. So, you know, after he had the device on his shoulder, you know, he suddenly was moving his arm around and he runs off and he calls his wife. And it was one of those things where I was sitting there. I was with Peter forehand. He's the photo by modulation scientists. That's that runs our course. And we're all just like, wow, this is awesome. And we're filming him. We have this great video. Um, but there's like this example, and then there's an example of.You know, somebody who's just suffering from post training soreness, you know, it's just got his muscles are sore from training the gym and, you know, he may may take him like, 2 or 3 days to find that that same relief. So, everybody's response rates are different. But what I always say is that with your continued use of light. You optimize your response rate, you know, because again, remember back in those, you know, times before concrete jungles, we were always under the light. Right. We were always in, so our bodies were working better. We were optimized, our cells were more optimized. So I always encourage consistency of use. The first time you, you, you have an issue, a condition. You're saying, okay, I'm gonna try red light. Give yourself a pain rating, you know, one to 10, what's your pain rating? You know, they may, the most common number we hear is eight. Right? Because people don't want to be too dramatic, right? Right. Um, so eight, they say, I say, okay, eight. So do 10 minutes in the morning, 10 minutes at night.the next day, give yourself that same pain rating. Um, so usually that's how they get introduced to it. But what I see is that they only use red light. This is something I, this is where what I wanted to break, you know, this, this habit, this bad habit with other devices is that people use. a device only when they have a problem.Oh, I've got pain now, I'll go find it. But actually, just like you need clean water, healthy food, regular exercise, quality sleep, you need these things on a daily basis. You need light on a daily basis. And with continued, consistent use of light therapy, you're getting, always getting light, your, your recovery becomes faster and faster. So that is something I always try to, uh, I push Push hard whenever I'm in conferences, or if I'm doing a speech or, you know, I'm running a seminar. I'm always trying to drive home this consistency of use. I've created the product. That is very versatile. You could throw it in your bag. Use on the go. So, you know, if even if you're feeling, you know, you've got a headache, you're looking at the computer screen, you have 100 emails to write and you're just not feeling up to it, you know, apply the device.Into those key areas, one great area is your spine, right? Right? Your forehead, right? Your chest, your, your guts, these key areas that do need energy, right? Don't just use it when, oh, I've, you know, I've, I've had an injury. Now I need to use it. Should be using it all the time. And that's where we see, you know, the uptake and recovery a lot, a lot quicker.Yeah, instead of using it like a band aid, creating a baseline, a strong foundation, a natural energy level that is higher, 24 7, and then you'll recover faster and have better injury prevention, which is the key thing. Injury prevention is better than injury recovery, right? You rather, you rather just, you know, Have a stronger healthier body and you talked about people having different, you know, regen times and all that and keep in mind your age Uh plays a factor in that as well. The older you get the slower your body works, unfortunately Uh, you know as as john as you said you're starting to feel it as you get up there That's what happens, right? No chicken anymore. We see all the time, you know, little kids fall, scrape, scrape their knee or break a leg and they're fine, you know, a few days, few weeks later. And then when you're older, you might be out for two, three months, so. That's right. Yeah. But I think it's great. And. John, just for a quick breakdown, I know on your website you've got the Essential and then the Body Pro. I mean, what are kind of the key differences between those two? You know, should people just jump straight to the Pro?Should they get the Essential if they're kind of unsure? How does that work? I would, I would recommend the Essential. They're exactly the same in terms of treatment. Both have 45 LEDs of red and near infrared and a dual LED. So the, So it is a dual, you know, infrared light, we can't see. Right. So as a, you know, just throwing this out as a way in which you can kind of critique products is if they have a dual nanometer, which is now the standard in, in, as of today, you know, LED technology is jumping very, very fast.Right? But dual nanometer means there's two nanometers programmed into one LED and they've, there's studies that show that the red light. In the net in the LED helps to support the infrared light going deeper into the body, whereas some devices that you see, you'll see a light is on light off light on light off.And so they'll have just a single nanometer. And then so basically 45 LEDs. You'll only have half infrared half. Okay. These are, these are, these are 45. So you're getting benefit. You're getting like more bang for your buck. Right? Um, but exactly the same in terms of treatment for the essential and the body pro the only difference is the essential is not IP67.You can't fully submerge it underwater. Not that that is a, that's the bells and whistles. Right? This is right. For the, the clinician, you know, use the, um, the practitioner, the therapist, and it is because it's environment and temperature tested, you can take it and use it with other modalities. You can take it into a salt chamber, you know, a cryo chamber, a hyperbaric chamber, and you can, you can stack red light with these other modalities, whereas the essential, you're not able to do that.Um, and then the other thing with the body pro is it has a spare battery. So, again, more designed for, you know, the coach or the therapist, because they'll have clients coming in, they'll have one body, one, one battery is charging, one is in use, stop treatment. Um, and then finally, the other difference with the Body Pro is actually it's app connected. So there's a way to optimize your, your intake of light therapy. Like, I have it attached to my, um, to my watch, and I can actually have it sync to my heartbeat. Uh, which is again, just the bells and whistles, so that's like pulsating to my heartbeat, you know, so just another sort of a little add ons, but again, everyone, I would encourage you just to get the essential, it's the, I would say is the product, it's our best B2C product, it's the product that I feel will, you know, really gain, change the use of red light therapy. You know, so the any and all individuals, whether they be active or they're at home, they're in the office, you know, you got that guy in the office with a bad back, he hates his, his boss. And yeah, I got a promotion over him and he's just riddled with pain and anxiety and anger. You know, it can fit into this scenario. It can fit, you know, into the scenario of like my mother, who was. Dealing with us kids traveling, you know taking us to all our different, you know, cricket practice soccer, right? She has something that she can you know use to address her pain in her back give her energy That's where the essential is. So yeah, the essential I would say is is is more suited to you know, your everyday person Yeah, and ladies and gentlemen again if if you've tried everything else, I mean you've got nothing to lose, right?I would definitely look into it if physical therapy isn't working for you if medication is not working for you You I mean, this is definitely something for you to try, but even if those are working for you, I highly encourage you to get this again for the injury prevention, for the faster recovery, and just also, regardless of fitness, just for everyday life, having more energy is never a bad thing, you know, just to perform better at work, in your home, in your community, so it's a great thing. And like you said, LED technology is coming a long way. Quickly and ladies and gentlemen, we actually had an episode about that shameless plug with planter And I highly encourage y'all to check it out It's about how to grow tons of vegetables and fruits inside your home in just a four foot space using led lights So it's it's remarkable Between growing food, healing our body, you know, powering stuff, the way the industry is changing is definitely awesome. And I just want to say, ladies and gentlemen, that again, if you didn't get that, you can connect directly with John on Instagram at John Graham Fitness. We're going to have that in the description below so you don't have to worry about spelling, but that's J O H N G R A H A M fitness and if you provide him your email and mention his podcast name, you'll get 10 days of unlimited access to the LumaFlex Foundations course. So if this episode wasn't enough to convince you or you've got some more minute questions or concerns, definitely check out the website which is also in the description below and reach out to John for that, you know, Foundations course and you can get a little more information. And then we also have available for y'all. The code flex 30 all caps to get 30 percent off the product itself. And as John put out there, the essential is great for everyone. But if you are one of those high performance athletes or more of the coach clinician side, definitely check out the pro. And if you're a swimmer or live anywhere where it rains a lot, definitely check out that other one, the, the body pro, especially if you're beach side. But John, I think this is so amazing. Like you said, spreading awareness is new. It is trending a lot more nowadays. Uh, but with that, you know, there's a lot of misinformation that goes around. There's a lot of myths. So I'm glad that you came on the show to tell the truth as someone who is a founder and leader in this industry with Flumaflex. And so I really appreciate that. Thank you for coming on the show. Thank you again. Very, I really appreciate you having me on. Um, yeah, it's again, it's we're, we're in a. We're, we're trying to compete against the use of pharmaceutical drugs. So yes, I've got a product most importantly, though, I have education.I am, you know, at the end of the day, I didn't get in this, you know, to make millions off a, uh, a red light therapy product, they're much easier ways to do things. So growing awareness, um, of red light therapy and changing people's lives that way right now is how I, you know, I get a lot of value. That's what kind of gets me up every morning. So there are other products out there. Use the product that is suited to your life. Use the product that you're going to be using this same time next year. Use that as a, as a benchmark, um, and then see, you know, see where it goes.
